The great traditions of Western civilization understood beauty not as arbitrary preference or mere decoration but as the visible manifestation of truth itself.
Our daughter was bored with her state college experience. She was a fashion marketing major, so my wife sent her to Firenze for a year in order to meet people involved with designing and selling fashion design. She was placed in an old palazzo opposite one of the wings of the Ufizzi. Her school brought her to visit all kinds of art, the Florentine art her base. She returned to us a different person: instead of valuing ephemeral beauty, she pursued internal beauty expressed through art. To make a long story short … she became a Ph. d. in Psychology. Art, proportion, and design also leads to such a vocation.
Wonderful essay. Thank you.

Beauty has been abandoned for so long that when you see a piece like this, you have to blink your eyes and pinch yourself. Fantastic article.
